His paternal grandparents were Thomas HENDRA and Mary BANDS; his maternal grandfather was William ROWE and his maternal grandmother is Ann BLAMEY. He had seven brothers and seven sisters, named John Thomas, John, Nathanial Rowe, Thomas, Frederick, Alfred, William Benson, Mary, Martha, Emma, Ida, Louisa, Myrtle Victoria and Candace. Melville Hendra was born 26 May 1886 at St Cleer, Cornwall and was the son of John Hendra and Mary Jane (nee Rowe). He, like the majority of the family emigrated to either the USA or Canada. There he married a girl called Mary (surname not known and date not known) They had three children, Thais, Melville John and Roberta. His death date and place is not known.
