John was born in 1863 in Malakhoff.  John's father was Henry James ASTON and his mother was Mary CROWLE. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, William Henry, Charles, Frederick Thomas, Hector Edwin, Elizabeth, Emma, Mary Isabella, Lilly Florence and Ethal Florence.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
