Patrick was born on September 3rd, 1762 in Oldhamstocks, East Lothian, Scotland and his baptism took place on September 12th, 1762 in Oldhamstocks, EastLothian, Scotland.  Patrick's father was David Sligh and his mother was Bettie Broun. He had six brothers and four sisters, named James, David, John, William, Hall, Hall, Mary, Elizabeth , Elizabeth and Janet.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.
