Thomas was born in 1668 in Thornage, Norfolk, England. Thomas' father was Richard Girdlestone (The Elder) and his mother was Palgrave Frith.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Girdlestone and Elizabeth Pyle. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Richard, John, Richard and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 63 in 1731.
