Thomas was born in 1658 in Thornage, Norfolk, England.  Thomas' father was Richard Girdlestone (The Elder) and his mother was Palgrave Frith.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Girdlestone and Elizabeth Pyle. He had four brothers and a sister, named Richard, John, Thomas, Richard and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died in 1658.
