Thomas was born in 1604 in Thornage, Norfolk, England. Thomas' father was Richard Girdlestone and his mother was Elizabeth Unknown.  His paternal grandparents were No Name Girdlestone and Unknown. He had a brother and two sisters, named Edmund, Elizabeth and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 39 in 1643.
