David's father was David Beath and his mother was Catherine Bowden. His paternal grandparents were James Beath and Christian Low; his maternal grandparents were William Henry Bowden and Caithrine Clarke. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Ernest James, Henry, Ethel Catherine, Constance Christian, Louisa Ermina (Mina), Olive Wilhelmina, Eudora Anne, Mabel Elisabeth (Mabs) and Frances Eugenie (Bobby). He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He died due to natural causes or old age at the age of 81 on November 24th, 1954 in Bath, Somerset, England.
