Archibald Knowles 
Archibald was born in 1854 in Brampton, Cumberland.1 Archibald's father was Robert Knowles and his mother was Jane Pickering. His paternal grandparents were Archibald Knowles and Ann Hope; his maternal grandfather was William Pickering. He had two brothers and six sisters, named William, Robert, Jane, Sarah, Ann, Barbara, Margaret and Mary. He was the oldest of the nine children.-
