James Harper

James was born in 1896 in Wheatley Hill, Co Durham.¹ James' father was John Harper and his mother was Betsy Annie Emmerson. His paternal grandparents were James Henry Harper and Elizabeth Haywood. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Alice, Mary and Sarah. He was the second youngest of the six children.
