Caroline was born on May 24th, 1873 in Hill End, Armley, Leeds, Yorkshire.¹ Caroline's father was James Butler and her mother was Harriet Brooksbank. Her paternal grandparents were William Butler and Mary Arendall; her maternal grandparents were James Brooksbank and Caroline Roberts. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Mark, James, Mary, Rose, Florence, Matilda, Nellie and Louie. She was the second oldest of the nine children. She died due to a medical problem, cardiac syncope, at the age of 79 on May 16th, 1953 in Acre Mount (no 2), Middleton, Leeds, Yorkshire.²
