Margaret was born on January 25th, 1855.  Margaret's father was Sir William Muir and her mother was Elizabeth Huntly Wemyss.  Her paternal grandparents were William Muir and Helen; her maternal grandparents were James Wemyss and Caroline Charlotte Binfield. She had seven brothers and seven sisters, named William, James, John, Archibald, Charles, Thomason Muir, Wemyss, Caroline, Helen, Elizabeth, Katherine, Agnes, Jean and Helen.  She died at 10 months old on December 18th, 1855.  Her burial was in Dehli, India.
