John William Whitling 
John was born in 1885 in Hauxwell, York, England and his christening took place there on October 4th, 1885.1 John's father was Samuel Whitling and his mother was Elizabeth Graham. His paternal grandparents were Henry Manfield and Rebecca Whitling; his maternal grandparents were Humphrey Graham and Ann Langsthorne. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Samuel, Robert, Richard, Rebecca, Harriet and Mary. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 88 in September 1973 in Wenslydale, Yorks.-
