James M. was born on August 11th, 1842 in Rockingham Co, NC. James M.'s father was George W. Roberts and his mother was Janette Strong. His paternal grandparents were James Roberts and Susannah Thomas. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert S., George A., William M., Elizabeth, Susan M., Martha Arrena, Lucy J. F. and Mary Virginia. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.General Notes
