Louisa was born on February 26th, 1825 in Screven Co., GA.1   Louisa's father was Thomas Pengree and her mother was Catharine Waters.  Her paternal grandparents were William Pengree and Rebecca Rosetta Downoy; her maternal grandparents were John Hanil Waters and Catherine. She had a brother and seven sisters, named James Marion, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Nancy, Catherine, Martha and Caroline.  She was the youngest of the nine children.1
