Virgil Powers was born on July 30th, 1847 in Emanuel Cty., GA.1 Virgil Powers' father was John Lanier Moore and his mother was Elender Barber. His paternal grandparents were John William Moore and Dicey Sikes; his maternal grandparents were William Barber and Mary A. Hendrix. He had five brothers and a sister, named William B., Augustus M., Sebron Thomas, Thomas Street, Hardy Hunter and Jane E.. He was the youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William Marshall and Sarah E.. He died at the age of 66 on October 21st, 1913.1 General Notes
