Susan was born in 1855.1   Susan's father was James Graham Gilchrist and her mother was Elizabeth J. McGehee.  Her paternal grandparents were Angus Gilchrist and Elizabeth McNeill. She had three brothers named Abner, James and Thomas.  She was the oldest of the four children. She had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Angus, Sara (Sallie), Elizabeth (Betty), Kate, Annie and Mary (Molly).  She died in 1855.1
