Elizabeth (Betty) was born in 1844 in Haynesville, Ala..1 Elizabeth (Betty)'s father was James Graham Gilchrist and her mother was Elizabeth Briggs. Her paternal grandparents were Angus Gilchrist and Elizabeth McNeill; her maternal grandfather was William Briggs. She had a brother and four sisters, named Angus, Sara (Sallie), Kate, Annie and Mary (Molly). She was the third oldest of the six children. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Abner, James, Thomas and Susan.1 -
