Elizabeth was born on August 15th, 1820.1   Elizabeth's father was Angus Gilchrist and her mother was Elizabeth McNeill.  Her paternal grandparents were John Gilchrist and Effie McMillan. She had two brothers named James Graham and John Jacob Rhodes.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Archibald McKay, John, Catherine, Effie and Mary.1
