Hugh Cushing 
Hugh was born on November 26th, 1813 in Plympton, Mass..1 Hugh's father was John Cushing and his mother was Lucy Sherman. His paternal grandparents were Seth Cushing and Lydia Everson; his maternal grandparents were Asa Sherman and Polly Stephens. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Sherman, Hardy, John Stephen, Lydia Everson, Louisa H., Polly [Mary], Ruth, Phoebe and Rachel. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 74 on September 3rd, 1888 in Wattsburg, Pa..1 General Notes

Hugh Cushing enlisted in Company C, 145th Regiment, Pa. Volunteers Aug. 4, 1862, and served to the close of the war. He was engaged in the battle of Fredericksburg, Va., Dec. 13, 1862. He was detailed as Hospital Steward, Jan. 5, 1863, and continued in thar service till his dicharge, June 24, 1865.
