Thomas J. was born on November 28th, 1774 in Cedar Creek, Hanover, VA. Thomas J.'s father was John Hutchins and his mother was Alice Stanley. His paternal grandparents were Strangeman+ Hutchins and Elizabeth+ Cox; his maternal grandparents were John Stanley and Alice Ballard. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Jonathan, Strangeman, William, Patrick, Nancy, Agatha, Susannah, Mary and Elizabeth. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
