Archibald was born about 1489. Archibald's father was George Douglas and his mother was Elizabeth Drummond. His paternal grandparents were Archibald+ Douglas and Elizabeth+ Boyd; his maternal grandparents were John+ Drummond and Elizabeth+ Lindsay. He had a brother and two sisters, named George, Elizabeth and Jonet. He was the oldest of the four children. He died in January 1557 in Tantallon Castle, Scotland.
