Elizabeth Melissa was born on August 6th, 1838 in Clark, IL. Elizabeth Melissa's father was David Bates and her mother was Eliza Eastin. Her paternal grandfather was Seth Huron Bates and her paternal grandmother is Sarah X; her maternal grandparents were Charles Smith Eastin and Sarah Swearingen. She had five brothers named Charles Seth, William Alexander, Isaac, John Edward and David Sterling. She was the third oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 39 on September 2nd, 1877. She was buried in Hogan Cemetery, Boxchurch, Limestone, TX.General Notes
