Maud was born about 1041 in Mortagne, S-Mnch, France.  Maud's father was Earl Roger de Montgomery of Shrewsbury and her mother was Mabel de Talvas de Belleme.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger de Montgomery III and Josceline de Pontaudemer; her maternal grandparents were Guillaume d'Alencon II and Hildeberge de Beaumont. She had six brothers and a sister, named Robert Arbetot, Robert, Hugues, Robert, 'Le Poitevin' , Arnulph and Sibyl.  She died in 1107.  She was buried in Abbaye De Grestain.

‌Maud and Robert were married in a religious ceremony in 1054.  They had a son and four daughters, named William, Matilda, Agnes, Denise and de Mortaigne.
