Hugues was born about 1042 in St Germain Montgomery, Normandy, France.  Hugues' father was Earl Roger de Montgomery of Shrewsbury and his mother was Mabel de Talvas de Belleme.  His paternal grandparents were Roger de Montgomery III and Josceline de Pontaudemer; his maternal grandparents were Guillaume d'Alencon II and Hildeberge de Beaumont. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Robert Arbetot, Robert, Robert, 'Le Poitevin' , Arnulph, Maud and Sibyl.  He died  due to Killed by Norse Raiders off the coast of Anglessey Island on July 31st, 1098 in Montgomery, Montgomershire, Wales.
