Prince Gruffudd ap Rhys of South Wales 
Gruffudd was born about 1081 in Dynevor Castle, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Gruffudd's father was King Rhys ap Tewdwr I of Deheubarth and his mother is Gwladus ap Rhiwallon. His paternal grandparents are King Tewdwr ("Mawr"; the Great) ap Cadell of South Wales and Gwenllian verch Gwyn of Anglesea; his maternal grandfather was Rhiwallon ap Cynfyn. He had three sisters named Nesta, Nest and Margred. He was the youngest of the four children. He died in 1136.General Notes

By about 1125, Gruffudd had entrenched himself in the upper reaches of Ystrad Tywi, where he awaited an opportunity to restore the authority of the house of Dinefwr in Dehubarth. He and his wife were killed during an attack against the English.
