Alice de was born about 1140 in Chester, Cheshire, England. Alice de's father was Ranulph de Gernon 2nd Earl of Chester, Vicomte d'Avranches and her mother was Maud Fitzrobert De Gloucester. Her paternal grandparents were Ranulph III de Meschines 3rd Earl of Chester, Viscount Bayeux and Countess Lucia Taillebois Countess of Chester; her maternal grandparents were Robert De Caen Earl De Gloucester and Maud Fitz Hamon. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard de, Hugh Keveliok (3Rd Earl), Maud, Johanna de and Beatrice De. She is the second oldest of the six children.General Notes
