Thomas was born on February 18th, 1796 in ,Surry,Nc. Thomas' father was Stephen Hobson and his mother was Rachel Vestal. His paternal grandparents were Stephen Hobson and Ann Barnes; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Vestal and Elizabeth Davis. He had five brothers and two sisters, named William, David, George, Stephen, Isaac, Anne and Elizabeth. He is the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
