His paternal grandfather was Isaac Chritton and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth Mann; his maternal grandparents were Enoch Blackwell Drake Sr. and Rachael Taylor. He had seven brothers and eight sisters, named Enoch Blackwell, Joseph Washburn, William Washburn, Johnnie Washburn, Robert B, Charles Santford Jr., James M., Cary Alexander, Azuba Lucinda, Catherine, Eura, Rachel Ann, Rebecca Jane, Mary Minerva (Molly) and America Ellen. He is the second oldest of the sixteen children.-
