Lavina was born on August 19th, 1794 in EDGECOMBE COUNTY, NC.1 Lavina's father was William Cherry and her mother was Lottie Hopkins. Her paternal grandfather was William Cherry. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Obadiah, Samuel, John, Frances, Jane and Nancy. She was the third youngest of the seven children. She had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Joseph Taylor, Allen A, John, George Washington, Bailey Harrison, Frances, Mary Ann Eliza, Sarah, Charlotte and Lucinda Hurd. She died at the age of 59 on December 15th, 1853 in WARREN COUNTY, KY.1 General Notes
