he la nd claim and the improvements they had done. The title to a sit

her was 1 7. James was 26 years old when he married Nancy McNutt.  She w
as 16.  Nan cy was the daughter of Major Robet McNutt who served in In Hou
ston ar my in the Battel of San Jacinto.  James served in the Siege of Bex
ar in 18 35. He was commissioned a second lieutenant of militia in the Ar
my of t he Republic of Texas on June 2, 1837 by President of the Republ
ic of Tex as Sam Houston.  James came to the Williamson County circa 184
6.  He and N ancy settle in the Hutto area.  Both Nancy and James are buri
ed in William son County. In 1850 James Bud served as Justice of the Peac
e.  He w as 39 at the time. William Barret Travis was a family friend a
nd the fami ly lawyer.  To honor his friend who died at the Alamo.  He nam
ed his son W illiam Barret Travis Allen.  William must have been told ma
ny stories abo ut his name sake because he also used the name Travis  wh
en naming t wo of his sons. The first Bud Travis and his last son Martin T

il Bty 99 7.  He served Wyle Martin Captain of Texas Volunteers from Mar
ch 7 to Ju ne 7 1836. On May 6th. He became ill and remained incapab
le of performi ng military duty until the term of his service expire
d. He was honorable d ischarged.

This is where he joined Stephen F. Austin's First Colony. In March of 1
82 2, he was one of the first settlers on the Colorado, near Peach Cr
ee k. He asked for approval of his land title, stating that he had a wi
fe a nd eight children, four boys and four girls. He returned to the Unit
ed Sta tes to get his family, but found his wife too ill to travel. He se
nt his t wo sons, Miles N. and James (Bud), back to Texas to plant a cr
op and dri ve the cattle back.
Your petitioner made frequent Applications to the Empersario & for La
nd f or his two Sons Miles Allen and James Allen both of whom had be
en in the S ervice of there Country from its Earliest Settlement. Neith
er of them wa re granted a foot of land for many years after we settled t
he Coloney. Wh en your petitioner's Eldest son Drew one fourth League, Whi
le many other y oung men that came to the Country long after they Did, a
nd never have lift ed Armes in Defence of the Country had Drawn Some ha
lf Leagues some who le Leagues & while your petitioners Second son James A
llen have not Dra wn Any Land in the Country and has been in the Country f
or fifteen year s, and was in the Service of his Country on the Day of t
