Carolina Eliza Matilda Cook was born on December 11th, 1824 in Natchitoches, LA.1 Carolina Eliza Matilda Cook's father was Martin C. Allen and her mother was Elizabeth Vice. Her paternal grandparents were John Benjamin Allen and Sarah Jane Sommers; her maternal grandfather was Nathaniel Vice and her maternal grandmother is Jermimah Unknown. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Miles Norton, James Bud, Martin Jackson, Benjamin J., Anna C., Mary G., Elizabeth, Nancy and Sarah Ann. She was the youngest of the ten children. lin e's burial is not known, but she was probably buried on their fa
rm on O wl Creek, near Belton, Texas. Archibald died and was buried in Hou
st on in 1869. Caroline was the youngest child of Martin Allen and Eliza
be th Vice. She was born in Louisana but grew up at 8 Mile Point in Aust
in Co unty, Texas. She married Archibald T. McCorcle in San Felipe, Aust
in Count y, Texas on 5 Sep 1839. Her husband was a native of Georgia, b
ut was rear ed in Alabama. For his military services in the Republic of Te
xas Army, Ar chibald was awarded a land grant in Ft. Bend County, Texas. A
fter his marr iage to Caroline Allen they moved near her family at San Fel
ipe. He w as a merchant and served as the Austin County coroner. In 184
8, they mov ed to Milam County which was subdivided and part of it beca
me what is n ow Bell County, Texas. Archibald and Caroline were very instr
umental in t he founding and development of the of town of Belton. They h
ad a home a nd business there. Some records show that Archibald was the fi
rst sheri ff of Bell County.
They had 8 children of which only 4 lived to maturity. The oldest, Ja
me s, died in the Civil war as a Confederate soldier and left no descenda
nt s. A daughter Lavinia McCorcle (Parker) lived and died in Bell and Cor
ye ll Counties, but had no descendants. Their son Whipple W. McCorcle be
ca me the first doctor of Killeen, Bell County, Texas and spent his enti
re li fe in that area. He has a large number of descendants, many in Centr
al Tex as. Caroline died soon after the birth of their youngest son Willi
am Wa de Hutching McCorcle. Archibald T. MCCORCLE and Caroline Eliza Matil
