John Thompson 
John was born on June 24th, 1744 in Albemarle, Surry Co., Virginia.1 John's father was William Thompson and his mother was Hannah Bell. His maternal grandparents were JOHN Bell and HANNAH STOKES. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Balaam, William, Susannah, Mary Martha, Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth Ann. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 67 in 1811 in Chatham Co., North Carolina.1 General Notes

John Thompson the revolutionary soldier was a member of the Provincial
Congress from Chatham Count, NC in April 1775 ( s tate records of NC., Vol
10 pg 165, and vol 16 pg 1069). Revolutionary servic e (Lt Wheeler's
history of NC pg 80). Chatham County was part of Orange Co., NC until
1771.
