Balaam was born on September 16th, 1807 in Catahoula Parrish, Louisianna.1 Balaam's father was William Pharoah Thompson and his mother was Nancy Ward. His paternal grandparents were Balaam Thompson and Olive Melton. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Terrell, William, James, Maria, Hannah and Rebecca Jane. He is the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named Christian.General Notes
