Mary Octavia was born in 1846 in Giles Co, Virginia. Mary Octavia's father was Isaac French and her mother is Rhoda Day. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac M. French and Elizabeth Stowers. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named William Henderson, Joshua Green, Giles Preston, Andrew Jackson, Rufus, Isaac E., John Day, Eliza and Martha. She is the second youngest of the ten children.-
