Martha was born about 1843 in Giles Co, Virginia. Martha's father was Isaac French and her mother is Rhoda Day. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac M. French and Elizabeth Stowers. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named William Henderson, Joshua Green, Giles Preston, Andrew Jackson, Rufus, Isaac E., John Day, Eliza and Mary Octavia. She is the third youngest of the ten children.-
