Emanuel Whitfield Dean 
Emanuel Whitfield was born on October 3rd, 1857 in Rockingham Co., Virginia.1 Emanuel Whitfield's father was William Franklin Dean and his mother was Francis E. Meadows. His maternal grandparents were Thomas W. Meadows and Elizabeth Breeding. He had fourteen brothers and eight sisters, named Thomas Lindsay, James, Solomon, William, Stephen, John, William Franklin, George Mitchell, Hiram Stephen, Thornton, Joshua Bishop, Wesley Amos, Bruce Wysong, Quinter, Melvyne Ardimis, Ardenia Frances, Clarinda C., Sidney Ann, Ardista Luraine, Armenta Belle, Eliza Elizabeth and Myriam Arbella. He was the fifth oldest of the twenty-three children. He died at the age of 82 on December 10th, 1939.1 General Notes
