Hector was born in 1793 and his baptism took place on March 14th, 1793 in Geise, Thurso, Caithness-Shire, Scotland. Hector's father is John SUTHERLAND and his mother is Christian HILL. His paternal grandparents are Hector SUTHERLAND and Barbara RIESS; his maternal grandparents are James HILL and Margaret FINLAYSON. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Sinclair, Donald, Nicholson, Couper, Robert, John, (2) Isabella, Couper and Marrion.
