Samuel Thompson was born on June 9th, 1835.1 Samuel Thompson's father was Aaron Ford Jones and his mother was Nancy T. Buckley. His paternal grandparents were Erasmus Jones and Amiah Unknown. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Joseph W., James S., David Washington, Aaron Fuqua, Henry Calvin, James Augustus, Martha Elizabeth, Mary Isabelle, Nancy Cari and America Ann "Annie" Barthina.
