Donald was born about 1636 in Castlewine, , Scotland. Donald's father was Duncan CAMPBELL and his mother was Jean COLQUHOUN. His paternal grandparents were Dugald CAMPBELL and Mary ERSKINE; his maternal grandparents were Alexander (Alasdair) COLQUHOUN [LORD] and Margaret Helen BUCHANAN. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Archibald, James, William, Alexander, Duncan, Ann, Jean and Marian "Mary". He is the fourth youngest of the nine children.General Notes
