Joan was born about 1248 in Of, Derbyshire, England.1   Joan's father was William De Ferrers and her mother was Margaret De Quincy.  Her paternal grandparents were William De Ferrers and Alice De Meschines; her maternal grandparents were Roger De Quincy and Helen Of Galloway. She had two brothers named Robert and William.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had three half-sisters named Maud Matilda, Joan and Agnes.  She died in Berkeley Castle, Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.  She was buried in St Augustines, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.1 1

‌Joan and Thomas Lord Berkeley were married in a religious ceremony in 1267.1   They had four sons and three daughters, named Maurice, James, John, Thomas, Alice, Isabel and Margaret.
