His paternal grandparents were James Fowler and Nancy Hannah Thomas; his maternal grandparents were Simeon Allen and Hannah Woody. He had five brothers and six sisters, named James Monroe, Siamon Arlendo, David Zeno, Charles Matton, William, Mary Adeline, Hannah Belle, Nancy Caroline, Rachal Sinie, Minnie Elizabeth and Daisey Victoria. He was the third oldest of the twelve children. He died in Washington D.C..-
