Charles Matton was born on June 20th, 1877 in Chatham Co. NC. Charles Matton's father was John G. Fowler and his mother was Mary Allen. His paternal grandparents were James Fowler and Nancy Hannah Thomas; his maternal grandparents were Simeon Allen and Hannah Woody. He had five brothers and six sisters, named James Monroe, John Joseph, Siamon Arlendo, David Zeno, William, Mary Adeline, Hannah Belle, Nancy Caroline, Rachal Sinie, Minnie Elizabeth and Daisey Victoria. He was the third youngest of the twelve children.-
