Renaud I was born about 1082 in <,Bar-le-Duc,Meuse,France>.1   Renaud I's father was Thierry II De Montbelliard Comte de Bar-le-Duc and his mother was Ermentrude of Burgundy.  His paternal grandparents were Louis II of Montbelliard and Sophia Countess of Bar-le-Duc; his maternal grandparents were Guillaume I "The Great" of Bourgogne Count/Bourgogne and Stephanie (Etienette) of Barcelona. He had nine brothers and eight sisters, named Renaud I Count of, Thierry III de, Louis de, Frederic, Count Friedrich I of, Guillaume de, Etienne, Count Reinald I of, Bishop Stephan of, Princess Gunhild of, Mathilde, Marguerite De Montbelliard, Mechtild de, Agnes De, Clementia de, Gunthilde and Princess Irmtrud of.  He was the fifth oldest of the eighteen children. He had a half-brother named Count Ludwig of.  He died on March 10th, 1149.1
