Mahaut was born in 1006 in Of,Louvain,Brabant,Belgium.  Mahaut's father was Lambert I "le Barbu" Louvain Count of and her mother was Gerberge De Lorraine.  Her paternal grandparents were Rainier III Longhals Hainault and Adelaide of Toxandrie Louvain; her maternal grandparents were Charles I le Gros, Duke of Lower Lorraine and Bonne Adelaide de Lorraine. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Lambert II "Baudry", Eustache I de, Mathilde de and Landrade de.  She died about 1049.
