John (1st Earl of Somerset) was born in 1373 in Near Pottersgate,Lincolnshire,England.  John (1st Earl of Somerset)'s father was John "Of Gaunt" of England Duke of Lancaster and his mother was Catherine de Roet Duchess of Lancaster.  His paternal grandparents were Edward III, King England and Countess, Queen of England Philippa Hainault; his maternal grandparents were Payn de Roet and Catherine de Hainault. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Thomas, Joan and Joan De. He had five half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Edward, John, Henry Plantagenet IV King of, John, Thomas, Philippa of, Philippa, Elizabeth, Isabel, Catherine of, Blanche and Blanche.  He died at the age of 37 in 1410 in St. Catherine-by-the-Tower,London,Middlesex,England.  He was buried in St. Michael's Chapel,Canterbury Cathedral,Kent,England.

‌John (1st Earl of Somerset) and Margaret (of Kent) were married in a religious ceremony about 1399.1   They had four sons and three daughters, named Henry (2nd Earl of Somerset), John (1st Duke of Somerset), Thomas (Earl of Perche), Edmund (2nd Duke of Somerset), Joan, Joan (of Somerset) and Margaret (of Somerset).
