John R. was born on September 18th, 1861 in Calhoun County, Arkansas.1 John R.'s father was John Jacob Weisinger and his mother was France Elizabeth Garrett. His maternal grandparents were John Mason Garrett and Sarah Marshall Grumbles. He had three brothers named Franklin Pierce, Mary Louisa and William. He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Thomas Franklin and Nancy Elizabeth.-
