Bryant J. was born on May 17th, 1846 in AL.1 Bryant J.'s father was Smith Summerlin and his mother was Martha A. Spradley. His maternal grandparents were Bryant A. Spradley and Frances Payne. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William E., Columbus M., Marilda, Louisa E., Jane and Rachel M.. He was the youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Thomas Lawrence, Sarah Malinda, Barbara Ann Lucinda Elizabeth and Georgana Frances Victoria.
