Allen SUMMERLIN, b abt 1780-1790 NC, lived in Kershaw Co during early
1800s with wife Priscilla SNIPES and their family. Allen's brother
Reading SUMMERLIN, Sr also lived there and died either in Kershaw or
Darlington County between 1823-1830. Rachael SNIPES SUMMERLIN, Reading's
widow appears as head of household in 1830, then next appears in Lowndes
County AL as head of household in 1850. Rachael and Reading's sons also
begin to appear in AL around 1830.
Bryant SPRADLEY's daughter, Martha SPRADLEY, marries Smith SUMMERLIN,
nephew of Reading SUMMERLIN Sr after the Spradley's move from Kershaw Co
to Montgomery Co AL. They married in 1834.
Only two of Reading SUMMERLIN's five sons are documented - George b
1815 SC, and Reading Jr b 1820 SC. I suspect the other three sons born
between 1805 and 1810 in NC to be Glisson SUMMERLIN, Evan SUMMERLIN, and
William SUMMERLIN. The later three, plus George, Reddin Jr. and Rachael
SUMMELRIN all lived near each other in Lowndes Co AL.
It's very possible that the SPRADLEY and Reading SUMMERLIN families
moved to AL together.
Obits from Crenshaw County Alabma papers
SUMMERLIN-Mr Smith Summerlin, who resided near Petrey died at 2 o'clock
Sunday morning last, of hemorrhage of the bowels. He was about 30
yearold, and leaves a wife and two children. Funeral & burial at the Live
Oak Church.

Smith and Adocia Summerlin, as well as some of their children, are buried
in Live Oak Cemetery, also in Crenshaw, between Fuller's Crossroads and
Patsburg. Other Summerlins or various Summerlin ancestors are buried in
Emmaus (the "town" cemetery for Luverne) and in another on the north side
of Luverne just south of Patsaliga River.
