Virgil Delmar Edward Rushing 
Virgil Delmar Edward was born on August 9th, 1918 in Elba, Coffee Co., AL.1 Virgil Delmar Edward's father was Rufus Sanders Rushing and his mother was Johnie Estelle Bowers. His paternal grandparents were John MacDonald Rushing and Eudora A. Simpler. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Hullen Eugene, MacDonald, Drexel, Gertrude Helen, Living, Living and Living. He died at the age of 70 on June 21st, 1989 in Luverne, Crenshaw Co., AL. He was buried in Emmaus Cemetery, Luverne, Crenshaw Co., AL..1 1 General Notes

During World War II, Virgil enlisted as an Apprentice Seaman in the Navy
18 May 1944 in Birmingham. He served aboard the USS Kangaroo in the
South Pacific. He was blown off of a Naval gun turret and fell to the
deck of the ship. He was put on board the U. S. Naval Hospital in Camp
LeJeune, North Carolina. He was honorably discharged 31 August 1945.
Afte his discharge he worked at the Ford Company in Samson (AL) and
trained to do body shop work. January 1946 he moved his family to
Luverne and started work at Luverne Motor Company in their body shop. He
worked there for 16 years. In 1962 he opened his own shop, "Rushing's
Body Shop". He sold his shop and retired August 1978. He died 21 June
1989 and is buried in Emmaus Cemetery, Luverne (AL). (1)
