Thomas William Rushing 
Thomas William was born on August 13th, 1851 in Pike Co., AL.1 Thomas William's father was Baron Dekalb Rushing and his mother was UNKNOWN Sirena. His paternal grandparents were Malachi Rushing and Telitha Dykes. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Mathew Malachi, Napoleon Bonaparte, Stephen Abraham, Mason Kimmie, Charles R., Joseph Earnest Dempsey, Stonewall, Mary Anna Pheobe, Rebecca and Lucinda. In 1872 Bill moved his family to Texas and in 1874 moved from Texas to
Walton County, Flordia. Bill delivered mail by horseback in the early
1900's. He carried mail from Orange Hill in Washington County, Florida by
Douglas Ferry and over the Choctawhatchee River to Knox Hill, Florida. He
rode a tamed old red horse named Maude. In his old age, Maude would sidle
up to Bill and try to make it easier for him to mount. He was said to be
of short stature with a great white beard.
He was also a farmer and did not stop farming until he was
seventy-five years of age. (1)
